New Firmware & API Now Available for Download!

We are pleased to announce our new DOSonCHIP firmware version 2.00 and its compliment: the DOSonCHIP API version 1.00 (royalty-free host source code distributed under the Apache open source license). Both of these upgrades are free for all past customers of our DOSonCHIP products as a show of our gratitude for your overwhelming support and patience for the new release. Download today! Our top distributor, SparkFun Electronics has received our first shipment of CD17B10-QFN IC's and should have them available soon.

We will be working to provide the CD17B10-QFP for purchase direct from our website in short order.

In addition, we are working on our worldwide distributor program, so if you are interested in reselling our product, please contact us to discuss enrollment. We should have the terms available soon.

Note that we will still support our version 1.xx firmware up through December 15th, 2008.

Product Availablility Announcement

After a very long development cycle, we are pleased to announce that our DOSonCHIP™ ICs will be available this month!

We have started the manufacturing cycle with our new version 2.00 firmware with full SDHC (up to 32GB!) compatibility. We will be posting the new firmware download and its accompanying royalty-free open source host-side code to the website shortly.

DOSonCHIP™ Firmware Release Status

We are working as fast as possible to complete our new firmware release! It is a major upgrade (yes, it will work with your existing DOSonCHIP hardware) that includes new architectural innovations to dramatically improve throughput. It departs from our existing host interface in order to improve efficiency and enable a stable path for future improvements. In addition, we will be supplying royalty-free host-side source code in C to simplify development.

We have completed testing on read rates and have a peak throughput of 300 KBytes/s (sustained over a 512 byte sector), and an initial test of a long sustained read over 100 KBytes/s. This is similar over both SDHC and SD cards.

We are currently finishing debugging the write function and should have test numbers shortly. We are expecting similar speeds as read.

Major Firmware Release in Development

Over the past year, we have been focusing on meeting customer demand for our products. This year, we are re-prioritizing and preparing a new firmware release that meets the growing customer needs. The top areas we are targeting (all work with existing hardware) are:

1. Speed increase for write & read
2. Host side source code: royalty-free
3. Improved documentation
4. Elimination of physical handshake lines (reduction in required pins)
5. SDHC compatibility

The initial firmware release will target SPI host communication (UART for firmware upgrade). We have completed and tested "read" commands, and have written most of our "write" code. It is a complete firmware architecture, design, and code overhaul that is geared to meet the growing multimedia data speeds demanded by our top customers.

We are very excited about this new architecture as we believe it will enable us to provide a strong platform to provide free performance enhancements to our existing customers and enable best-in-class products going forward.

New Product: DOSonCHIP-SD1 Module

The DOSonCHIP-SD1 drop-in module will be available in April 2006. Based upon the DOSonCHIP™ CD17B10 silicon chip, the DOSonCHIP-SD1 is a ready made OEM module that enables "easy design-in" of PC compatible SD/MMC cards without requiring an OS. At roughly the same size as the SD/MMC card socket itself (1.2" x 1.6") and with standard (0.1" spaced) I/O header pins, this ready-to-go module integrates an entire FAT file system with real-time clock that draws a typical 5mA (media card inactive) and shutdown at less than 0.1µA.

Wearable Inc. announces its first DOSonCHIP™ product, the CD17B10—the lowest cost way to add PC compatible removable mass data storage to your products. Costing as low as $5 per unit, engineers can quickly add a miniSD/SD/MMC card with a FAT file system to their design. It consumes a scant 5mA while running, less than 0.1µA in shutdown, is only 4mm x 4mm in size, and requires a minimum of 2 external capacitors (optionally add 1 watch crystal & 3 more passives for time & date real-time clock). It interfaces to any microcontroller by way of a UART (with autobaud detection), SPI bus, or I2C bus (planned) (all I/O lines are 5V tolerant). It is also RoHS (Pb-free) compliant.
