There are times when a Linux or embedded RTOS are called
for, but there are times when a project needs a PC file
system without the increased complexity of an OS. By
embedding a complete FAT file system on low cost and power
efficient silicon along with the physical card interface,
adding gigabytes of file storage becomes simplified.

When engineering a project, silicon typically gets the most
attention. However, digital hardware design always sits in
an analog world, and the supporting passive components for
each silicon IC add up in terms of larger BOMs, i.e., more
procurement efforts, increased PCB real estate, and with
volume: cost. The DOSonCHIP silicon has been designed to
minimize the external supporting components. In fact, the
simplest configuration requires only 2 common external
capacitors and the socket for the memory card (optional
date & time clock requires watch crystal plus 3
passives).

Data Logging
One of the main requirements for data logging is extremely
low power consumption. Low power is often required to
extend battery life or to leverage a micropower supply. The
engineer needs to look at both the active and sleep power
consumption over the time needed to make sure the project
meets its design goals. The DOSonCHIP IC has been designed
to keep power at a minimum when operating and when asleep.

FPGA Configuration
Does your design include a large gate FPGA? How about
multiple FPGAs? Would you like to reconfigure your design
in the field, or load different FPGA profiles on user
demand?
By adding DOSonCHIP silicon to your design, you can easily
download multiple configuration files to the SD card from
your PC, plug it into your design, and select which one
should be loaded into your FPGAs. In addition, you can
store additional data on the card as needed by your design.

Web Server
There are many embedded web server solutions available
today. However, most solutions either have limited flash
storage, or cumbersome methods to update the web files. By
adding DOSonCHIP silicon to your web server solution, you
can easily transfer gigabytes of web server files from your
PC to an SD card and plug it into your embedded server. If
your server adds files, they can also be backed up to the
PC at a later time.
